Changing Lives in Muskogee

Project Transformation at St. Paul UMC

St. Paul United Methodist Church is proud to serve as a host site for Project Transformation Muskogee, a United Methodist ministry that transforms the lives of children and college students through summer literacy programs. Each summer our building becomes a place where elementary-age children grow as readers and college-aged interns grow in their faith and calling.

About the Program

What is Project Transformation Muskogee

For Children

Project Transformation serves children who have completed kindergarten through 5th grade. The summer program runs for six weeks and focuses on reading, enrichment activities, and building confidence in the classroom. The program is only $10 per child for participating families.

For College Students

Project Transformation places college-aged interns in host sites like St. Paul for the summer. Interns lead the children’s program while growing in their own faith, leadership, and sense of calling. It is a life-changing summer experience for the interns as much as the children they serve.

Why It Matters

Transforming Lives in Muskogee One Summer at a Time

Research shows that children who do not read at grade level by the end of third grade are significantly less likely to graduate high school. Summer learning loss — sometimes called the summer slide — is one of the leading contributors to that gap, particularly for children in underserved communities. Project Transformation Muskogee exists to interrupt that cycle.

At St. Paul United Methodist Church in Muskogee, we have seen firsthand what happens when a child spends a summer surrounded by caring mentors, engaging books, and a community that believes in them. Children who arrive uncertain and hesitant leave with confidence, stronger reading skills, and the knowledge that they are loved and valued.

For the college-aged interns who lead the program, the summer is equally transformative. Many arrive unsure of their calling and leave with a clearer sense of purpose, a deeper faith, and relationships that last far beyond the summer. Project Transformation is a ministry that changes lives in both directions.

St. Paul is proud to be a Project Transformation host site in Muskogee, Oklahoma. Opening our doors each summer is one of the most concrete expressions of our belief that the church exists not for itself but for the world. If you want to see what that looks like in practice, come visit us this summer.

Project Transformation Muskogee is made possible by the generosity of volunteers, donors, and host sites like St. Paul who believe every child deserves a summer that sets them up for success. Whether you want to register a child, volunteer as a Reading Buddy, sponsor a dinner for the interns, or simply pray for the program, there is a place for you in this ministry. Together we can make a difference in the lives of Muskogee’s children.
